SHURMAN: EVENTS THAT INCITE HATRED, ANTI-SEMITISM AND DISCRIMINATION HAVE NO PLACE AT QUEEN’S PARK


“Reports of last year’s Al Quds rally suggest that limits of the Canadian freedoms of expression were exploited to provide a platform for the dissemination of hatred, intimidation and anti-Semitism. It makes me wonder whether the Speaker and others in authority actually looked at the same videos of last year’s event as I did,” Shurman said. "Such events do not belong in Ontario. Given the very disturbing nature of last year's Al Quds rally, I urge the Legislature’s authorities to take every necessary step to ensure that organizations which utilize Queen’s Park grounds respect the values Canadians stand for.”

“The government needs to stop treating Ontarians like children, and actually engage in the debate about updating our liquor retail system for the 21st century,” Shurman concluded. “It’s time they took action to kick-start Ontario’s economy, instead of getting in the way of economic growth.”

“Look no further than a growing scandal over padded work orders, demands for a ‘cut’ of contracts, forcing members to work for Liberal politicians, talk of ‘slush funds’ and other abuses stemming from favoured contracting by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB),” Shurman said. “This might never have happened under Ontario PC labour law reforms we have proposed.”
