Peter Shurman, MPP – Thornhill:
Peter Shurman was first elected to the Ontario Legislative Assembly in October 2007 and again in October 2011.
Born in Montreal, Peter embarked on a successful career in radio and in 1983 moved to the Greater Toronto Area to lead Standard Radio and its flagship CFRB. He settled in Thornhill, where he and his wife Carole raised their two sons Michael and Brian.
Following a successful career in the corporate and, later, the small business sectors, Peter returned to his radio roots in 2004 and became a popular talk show host. He left that behind to represent the riding of Thornhill as MPP in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and now serves as opposition critic for Finance, for Toronto, and for Francophone Affairs.
Peter is a committed volunteer for many worthy community causes. For several years, he broadcast at the Radiothon for Sick Kids Foundation, helping to raise millions of dollars each year for the Hospital for Sick Children. He remains a regular committed donor. He was the signature voice for VoicePrint - a charity which reads the news and other printed materials to over four million vision-impaired Canadians. He regularly serves as honorary co-chair on a variety of worthy community causes.
Peter has been especially devoted to both children’s and seniors’ issues as he believes these are our two most vulnerable groups. Peter adopted the children of Zareinu, a learning centre for children with disabilities, and he participates in numerous activities to support this one-of-a-kind organization.
Peter Shurman believes the community is a give and take endeavor and works to ensure that we pass along our concern and involvement to the next generation.
